FAQ

STEP 1

What is the difference between publishing under Bar-Z’s developer account vs. under my own?

While publishing your App under Bar-Z’s developer account means less work on your end, the app stores will list Bar-Z as the publisher instead of your organization. Also, you will only be able to run your test builds on two devices. The screenshot below shows that BarZ Adventures is the publisher of the Go Jersey Shore App.

Publishing your App under your account is a lengthier process because you have to set-up your developer accounts yourself. Your Bar-Z Client Success Team Member will help you through every step of this process. Having your own developer accounts means that your organization will be listed as the publisher of the app. You will also be able to run your test builds on as many devices as you choose.

Why do I have to give Bar-Z access to the e-mail address I set-up?

(Only pertains to Bar-Z customers who choose to set-up their own developer accounts)

We request this information to assist you in setting up the developer accounts in case you run into issues that you need Bar-Z’s assistance to resolve. After your App is published, we will likely never use it again. So after your App goes live, feel free to change the password.

Why do I have to set up an admin account for Bar-Z in the Apple Developer account?

(Only pertains to Bar-Z customers who choose to set-up their own developer accounts)

Bar-Z needs to use this admin access to manage the publishing of your App. The only difference between giving us permission at the admin level and your own developer account is that Bar-Z can’t make any binding legal agreements. Think of our admin account as a full-time maintenance man; we will handle all maintenance from here.

STEP 2

What should my custom home screen look like? Do I have to have buttons like the attached examples?

There are no aesthetic limitations when it comes to designing your custom home screen. You can have traditional buttons with labels on them. Any shape or image can also be a button. The sky's the limit! Bar-Z recommends no more than 16 buttons on a custom home screen. The thing to remember here is that you want users to be able to navigate your App easily. Putting too many buttons on your home screen may make it cluttered and hard to read.

Can I have users go to another page with buttons after the custom home screen?
Again, this is your App and you can have whatever App flow you’d like. That said, you don’t want folks to have to tap too many buttons before they get to the content they want. Bar-Z suggests you create the most direct route possible.
Why don’t the App icon designs in the attached examples all have rounded corners?

When Bar-Z submits App icons to Apple, we submit them with 90-degree corners. We do this because Apple requires it. Therefore, we only have square App icons to show you.

Why are you asking me to study App flow when I haven’t even designed by graphics?
Your design for your custom home screen and other graphics will depend on what App flow you want. If you do your graphics before you decide on App flow, you may have to redesign your graphics.
I don’t want to utilize any of the App flow options listed. Can you draw up a new App flow for me?
There are certain limitations to how we can tweak App flow because of the way the Apps are coded. Tell us what you have in mind and we may be able to create an App flow that works for you.
I’m stumped. Can Bar-Z create graphics for me?
Sure, we can! Just call us for a graphics quote. We will then work hand-in-hand with you to create great graphics that work for your App.

STEP 3

What is the CMS and why do I have to do CMS training?
Bar-Z’s CMS is the database you will use to build your App content. We’ve designed it to be as user-friendly as possible, but like any other database, it requires a little training.
I don’t want to have to manually enter each location, event and deal into the CMS. Is there a way around it?
Yes. Bar-Z can do a one-time data import from a csv file. Just call us and we’ll explain how we can work together to achieve this.
Where will I get the information when a user fills out the registration form?
There is a place in the CMS where you will download a spreadsheet of all the users who have filled it out.

STEP 4

This looks like a lot of graphics and text. Can’t Bar-Z do this for me?
Yes and no. Yes, Bar-Z can create your graphics for you and we are happy to do it! Feel free to call us for a quote! However, when it comes to the text elements, like the App description, it falls to you to provide those
How should my custom home screen look? What buttons should I include? Please tell me what to do!

Bar-Z is happy to provide creative direction for your custom home screen. Take a look at the document “Step 4 Help-Designing Your Custom Home Screen” in the Step 4 folder of this guide.

Can I have visitors go to another page with buttons after the custom home screen?
Again, this is your App and you can follow whatever App flow you’d like. However, you don’t want folks to have to tap too many buttons before they get to the content they want. Bar-Z suggests you create the most direct route possible. You also want to keep the number of custom screens down to control the size of your App. Some users won’t install a large App on their phone.
I’m stumped. Can Bar-Z create graphics for me?

Sure we can! If you do choose to have Bar-Z create your graphics, we will have a meeting about your App and then provide a few mock-ups for you to look at. We will then work hand-in-hand to narrow down the graphical look you want. Please note there is an additional charge to have Bar-Z create your App graphics.

Why is Bar-Z resizing my iTunes Artwork (Step 4-J) for both my Apple App Icons and Google Play Icons?
Apple and Google play require that we submit your App with multiple App icon sizes. We’re just trying to save you some work.
I’d rather give Bar-Z .tiffs instead of .pngs or .jpgs. Can I do this?
Nope. Please stick to the specifications in the guide.

STEP 5

Why am I test driving my App? Shouldn’t Bar-Z do that for me?
We do test drive your App! Before we even give you your test build we go through our own quality assurance testing. But you still need to do your own test driving.
Can I get a test build for my friend/colleague/spouse so I can get more feedback on my App?
If you gave us the UDID numbers for these folks back in Step 4-H, sure! But having us go back and add UDIDs is not optimal, so Bar-Z kindly asks that you provide those UDID numbers before your test build is deployed. We ask this because our developers need to focus on coding your ‘real’ App. Constantly redeploying test builds keeps them off-task.
Why shouldn’t I focus on App Content changes in Step 5-B?
We need you to focus on the user interface and App flow right now so we can re-code any changes you ask for. App content changes can be made later or even after your App goes live.
Can I change my custom home screen now before my App is published?
Absolutely. If there is any doubt in your mind about your custom home screen, now is the time to change it. If you want to wait and change your custom home screen after your App is already live, you may incur a service charge.
Can I get my test build/revised test build on the same day I gave Bar-Z my graphics and changes?
It takes time to build an App. You can expect to get your test build/revised test build 7-9 business days after you submit your graphics and change requests to your Client Success Team Member.
